CIMENT QUÉBEC
Ciment Québec Inc. has one of the most modern cement plants in North America. Ciment Québec manufactures many types of cement products and distributes to Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, and the United States.
The Challenge
Ciment Québec approached AirStream in 2005 after experiencing production bottlenecks due to wear issues with their fan equipment.
In addition to addressing fan equipment reliability, Ciment Québec hoped to increase capacity of its main process fan, reduce power consumption, and impeller wear.
The Solution
After initial on-site testing, AirStream suggested an innovative concept that made it possible to reuse the existing fan housing, requiring only that the impeller and inlet core be changed. Our team of engineers guaranteed this solution would increase capacity, reduce power consumption, and have a two to three times longer wear life than the previous fan.
The Results
The new impeller allowed the plant to increase its production capacity by more than 7 percent, and at the same time, reduce power consumption by over 36 percent at full fan flow.
After two years in full operation the plant operators have fully utilized the additional flow of the upgraded fan, providing increased flexibility and spare capacity. On the equipment itself, virtually no wear has occurred and impeller maintenance has been limited to trim balancing.
