ALBERTA PULP & PAPER MILL
After suffering from ongoing maintenance downtime to clean severe hard build-up on their Lime Kiln ID Fan, the Alberta mill decided to work with AirStream on a solution. After the fan rotor was upgraded in 2017, the mill was able to operate for a full year without cleaning.
The Challenge
AirStream reached out to an Alberta mill outlining a customized solution to the problem of dust build-up on their Kiln ID Fan in early 2017. The hardened dust deposit required sandblast cleaning every 3-4 months because it caused excessive vibration.
The Solution
AirStream was contracted to supply a rotor upgrade solution that reused the existing fan housing, motor, bearings and coupling. Reducing maintenance downtime was identified as the key driver for the project. The proposed solution offered an aerodynamic solution to the hard build-up issue on this fan, while reducing input power requirements at the operating condition.
The Results
In 2018, the mill confirmed that they were able to operate the fan continuously for a full year without the need to shutdown for cleaning. Additionally, fan was able to deliver a flow increase of 10% over the old fan.
