TITAN PENNSUCO
Titan Florida’s Pennsuco cement plant, located west of Miami is now the largest cement facility in Florida and is recognized as one of the most environmentally-friendly and efficient plants in the United States. Titan’s Pennsuco quarry is the fifth largest quarry in the United States producing more than 7.5 million tons of limestone products annually.
The Challenge
The team at Titan Pennsuco contacted AirStream in late 2007, as concerns increased about the quality and reliability of their raw mill fan. Over the life of the fan equipment, wear life had become an increasingly large barrier to successful operations, in part due to the highly abrasive dust that was a result of the raw materials native to the region.
The Solution
AirStream was contracted to deliver a turnkey upgrade to the raw mill fan. In order to enhance return-on-investment, our solution reused all fan components except the rotor and inlet cones. Minor modifications were also made to the fan housing. With wear rates being one of the largest issues faced by Titan, our solution aerodynamically addressed the impingement of dust on the blades and ensured that all surfaced in the rotor were fully protected with liners.
The Results
In 2009, after 10 months of operation, the fan rotor was inspected and virtually no wear was evident. In addition, the upgrade also restored full performance and reduced power use by 787 kW.
